With Yuvraj Singh ruled out of the first test against England, there have been whispers that the delectors will be forced to consider Sourav Ganguly. But selection committee chairman Kiran More gave nothig away. " We have the replacement for Yuvraj on our mind but we will tell you about that tommorrow." he said on Wednesday. " All the players, including Ganguly, are eligible to be selected." But Ganguly was only selected for the tests in Pakistan and therefore technically has not been dropped.
But given Yuvraj's form, it was being discussed by experts and in the media circles that Ganguly would be dropped. By late afternoon news also in the Virender Sehwag is fit, which More confirmed. When asked why the team was to be announced on the first day of the Indian Board President XI's match against England, More said, " We are not just looking at the first Test but also developing a good team for the long term.
The tests and One-Day teams have settled more or less but there are a lot of India 'A' and these matches will help us gauge the players." More had said a couple of weeks ago that he would be following the progress of VRV Singh as India need a genuine fast bowler. The strapping Punjab bowler will be bowling in his first match after injury.
When asked if there would be focus on VVR Singh, More said, "Definetely ,he is a good fast bowler and has done well in the domestic season and in the Challenger series." |
